Buffalo Bills K Tyler Bass Wins AFC Player of Month Award

Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass has been perfect through three games this season.

Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, the NFL announced on Thursday. The two other winners of the monthly AFC awards included Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt.

Through three games this season, Bass has been perfect. He's hit all seven of his field goals and all 10 of his extra points. He's the only kicker that's attempted 10 or more extra points to not miss in that stage.

Bass signed a four-year contract extension worth up to $21 million with the Bills during the offseason. The deal includes $12.3 guaranteed.

In an elite offense that still had its fair share of inconsistencies last season, Bass helped make up for it on special teams by going 27 of 31 on field goals (87.1 percent) and 48 of 50 on extra points. Considering the often horrible weather conditions in Buffalo, these numbers are certainly impressive in a league that sees kickers struggle with extra points.

Some new life-changing money isn't altering the underdog approach from Bass. He's keeping true to what's allowed him to ride this unprecedented journey to become one of the best kickers in the NFL.

“For me, I was a walk-on in college, and that mentality of what I did to earn that, I’m never going to forget that," he said Thursday. "I’m still going to grind. I think I’m going to grind even more now."

Bass and the Bills will look to make it three straight wins on Sunday when they host the Miami Dolphins.
