Bills GM Brandon Beane Reveals Von Miller Return Target
The Buffalo Bills are less than two weeks away from starting their season, but they will do so without a key member of the defense.
The team placed Von Miller on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List despite making strides towards recovery from tearing his ACL back in November.
"Debated round and round a little bit, but ultimately, long season and we want Von for the stretch run," general manager Brandon Beane said. "He's trending up and it was a chance he would've been practicing soon. But he's just not quite there. And the closer we got, don't think he would have been ready to immediately start the season and so we're just going to try to play it smart."
With his placement on the PUP List, Miller is out for at least the first four games of the season. However, Miller has the chance to make a splashy debut across the pond in London on Oct. 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"If he's confident and ready to roll and we feel he's had enough in pads, because you're not gonna be able to wear pads in practice until then," Beane said. "So that would probably be a decision we'd have to make that week. He hasn't played football since last Thanksgiving … but I know he's going to want to play in that game, and we'd be crazy not to want him out there. So hopefully the stars align."
In his first season with the Bills, the 2011 No. 2 overall pick recorded eight sacks in 11 games, acting as if he was in the prime of his career despite being in the league for over a decade.
He holds the keys to the Bills' defensive success ... and the sooner he can return, the more Buffalo will benefit.
