Bills Place Von Miller, 2 Others on PUP List

The Buffalo Bills defensive trio will have to pass a physical in order to make a return to the practice field with the preseason just about two weeks away.

Despite his own confidence, Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller still understandably appears unready for Week 1 against the New York Jets after suffering a torn ACL this past November.

Miller joined linebacker Tyler Matakevich and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips as three players the Bills placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp, the team announced Tuesday. They'll now have to pass a physical in order to make a return to the practice field with the preseason just about two weeks away.

Phillips had shoulder surgery earlier this offseason. Despite getting the operation done after the season, his surgically-repaired torn rotator cuff apparently still needs time to heal. However, Buffalo's announcement didn't specify the injuries that are forcing Phillips and Matakevich onto PUP.

But all eyes have been on Miller, as he's arguably Buffalo's most important piece on the path toward Super Bowl contention. He had previously said that it's a "guarantee" he'll be back no later than Week 6, though the Bills training staff will obviously have the final word.

"The most important thing for me is just to be available when my team really needs me," Miller said at OTAs in May. "If that's Week 1, then I'll be happy for that. If that's Week 6, I'll be happy for that. But I guarantee it won't be any later than that. Whatever it takes for me to get to that point, that's what I'll do."

The Bills begin training camp on Wednesday at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y.
