‘I’m Close!’ Von Miller Back for Bills vs. Aaron Rodgers Week 1?
The return of star pass-rusher Von Miller is important to the Buffalo Bills - and to Miller himself - on a number of levels … with Week 1 seemingly on Von’s mind.
And why? Beyond “football players play football,” Week 1 is Bills vs. New York Jets. And what better way to introduce new Jets QB Aaron Rodgers to the rigors of the AFC East than to have Von Miller play “Welcome Wagon”?
And now Miller, 34, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the Bills' game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, is making noise of a coming return.
“I’m close,” wrote Miller on Wednesday via his IG.
Miller is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. … and the season is a marathon. The expectation has generally been that he would come back around the middle of the season. But if gets medical clearance to do more faster?
According to general manager Brandon Beane, the idea of Miller having a chance to return for the Bills' Week 1 game against the Jets has been discussed by the club.
"It's definitely a possibility," Beane told NFL Network on Monday. "Not saying he would do it for sure, not saying he wouldn't, we're not quite there yet, but have not ruled out that he could play Week 1 if he gets cleared by doctors."
An eight-time Pro Bowler with two Super Bowl rings, Miller took over as a leader and performer in his first season in Buffalo after his spring 2022 signing. The future Hall of Famer recorded eight sacks in 11 games before going down. Buffalo needs that again … and the Bills would love for Rodgers and the Jets to fully realize that … as soon as possible.
