Report: Broncos Made 'Very Aggressive' Pursuit of WR Allen Lazard
The Denver Broncos reportedly courted former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard during the inaugural stages of NFL free agency.
According to The Score's Jordan Schultz, the Broncos made a "very aggressive" pursuit of Lazard, who ended up inking a four-year, $44 million contract with the New York Jets.
"Denver really values his toughness and route-running," Schultz reported Tuesday.
That Denver sniffed around Lazard, a 40-game starter for Green Bay, isn't much of a shock given how vigorously they attacked the league's signing period, shelling out more than $200 million in contracts.
However, the timing of the report sparked intrigue as it coincides with persistent speculation that the Broncos could trade a starting WR, Courtland Sutton or Jerry Jeudy — or even both — in the days ahead.
Sutton purportedly has been on the block since February's Scouting Combine, while Jeudy is a "hot name this week," according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, who claimed Denver's asking price is "at least a first-round pick."
"Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy's name has continued to come up in trade conversations, per source, but Denver's price has remained high," Howe tweeted Monday. "Sounds like they're assessing his value before proceeding."
While the position may look drastically different next season, the Broncos have largely maintained status quo thus far, save for the March 7 addition of WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey.
But, with general manager George Paton, where there's smoke, there's often fire. Stay tuned.
