Report: Broncos Hire Keary Colbert as WRs Coach
It's a homecoming of sorts for Keary Colbert, whom the Denver Broncos hired as their new wide receivers coach, 9NEWS' Mike Klis confirmed Thursday.
Colbert, a former second-round draft pick, appeared in 75 games across a six-year NFL career, which included a brief stint with the 2008 Broncos. He transitioned to coaching two years later.
Colbert would vault from a USC graduate assistant in 2010 to an offensive analyst for Alabama in 2014, before returning to the Trojans program in a variety of different roles. He spent last season as the WRs coach at the University of Florida.
"Colbert’s track list is very impressive for a short coaching career, including Albert Wilson (Georgia State), JuJu Smith-Schuster, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Michael Pittman, and Drake London," noted Nick Marcinko of GatorCountry.com.
Colbert, 40, replaces now-Jet Zach Azzanni in Denver and assumes a quality stable of pass-catchers, none more ascending than Jerry Jeudy, who led the club in catches (67), receiving yards (972), and receiving touchdowns (6) in 2022.
Colbert is the latest offensive staffer imported by new Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who's also reportedly tapped Joe Lombardi as an assistant (possibly coordinator), Zach Strief as line coach, Declan Doyle as tight ends coach, and Logan Kilgore as quality control.
