Details of Broncos' FA Deal With DL Zach Allen Emerge

It's time to break down Zach Allen's new contract with the Denver Broncos.
In this story:

The Denver Broncos have been more active in free agency than in some time, having made multiple moves early in the 'legal tampering' period.

Gut Reaction

Allen has shown steady improvement during the past four seasons, and the Broncos paid him with the expectation that he will take a significant role in Vance Joseph's defense.

However, while Allen will collect a lot in terms of fully-guaranteed money, he didn't reach the numbers that Daron Payne or Javon Hargrave got. Allen got what would be considered a true 'tier two' contract in terms of where the market currently stands.

The Broncos could trade Allen in 2024 if necessary, and they can cut him in 2025 without taking too much dead money. If he does play out his entire contract, it's worth noting he would be just 29 years old in 2026 and could be in line for more money then.

It's worth noting that Dre'Mont Jones got a three-year deal with a stronger cash flow, which might explain why the Broncos were unable to come to terms with him. But Allen is a player on the rise, and he should be a capable Jones replacement, particularly when it comes to run defense.

Contract Grade: B+
