NFL Insider Leaks Details of Frank Clark's Broncos Contract
The finer points of the incentive-laden deal that brought veteran EDGE Frank Clark to the Denver Broncos have been publicized.
Via Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Clark — whose one-year contract, inked June 8, includes $5.51 million in guaranteed base salary — can earn an additional $500,000 if he plays 60% of defensive snaps and the Broncos win six games, or if he records six sacks.
There are also $500,000 bonuses for eight, 10, and 12 sacks, per Breer, which amounts to a max value of $7.5 million, as previously reported.
Clark, 30, has not reached double-digit sacks since his 2018 campaign with the Seattle Seahawks (13.0) — a feat he's accomplished only twice over eight NFL years. He totaled five quarterback takedowns but did log 69% of snaps last season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Playing time shouldn't be an issue for Clark, who's currently penciled in as a starting outside linebacker while Baron Browning recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery. Even when Browning returns, Clark figures to function as Denver's designated pass-rusher under blitz-happy coordinator Vance Joseph.
To his contentment.
“The situation with [head coach] Sean Payton is good for me,” Clark told Josina Anderson of CBS Sports upon putting pen to paper. “I get to play alongside Randy Gregory and stay in my division that I am very familiar with. I also want to help the Broncos get back to the mountain top.”
