Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy Avoids IR to Begin Regular Season
In a sign that his return is anticipated sooner rather than later, Denver Broncos general manager George Paton declared Tuesday that starting wide receiver Jerry Jeudy will avoid the short-term injured reserve list to open the 2023 regular season.
“He will not go on that," were Paton's exact words following the NFL's roster deadline.
Jeudy is six days removed from reportedly sustaining a "moderate" hamstring injury that's expected to sideline him for "several weeks." The injury occurred during last week's joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, from which he needed to be carted off.
"It's a hamstring," Broncos head coach Sean Payton confirmed after that practice. "He’ll get an MRI, and we’ll kind of see where he’s at with it. Nothing more.”
Moving Jeudy to short-term IR — as Denver figures to do with cornerback K'Waun Williams (ankle) and offensive tackle Alex Palczewski (hand) — would have cost him the first four games before becoming eligible for activation.
Now, left untouched, Jeudy is free to hit the field as soon as physically able, though should be considered highly questionable for the Sept. 10 opener versus Las Vegas.
Jeudy, 24, is among just four WRs on the Broncos' 53-man squad, along with Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, and Brandon Johnson. The team on Wednesday added four more wideouts to its practice squad: Phillip Dorsett, David Sills, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, and Michael Bandy.
