Report: Jerry Jeudy Out 'Several Weeks' Due to 'Moderate' Hammy Injury
An MRI has revealed that Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy suffered a "moderate" hamstring injury during Thursday's practice that's expected to sideline him for "several weeks," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.
"That puts Jeudy’s status in question for Week 1. But there’s optimism it’s nothing long term for one of Denver’s top weapons," Rapoport said.
The injury presumably looked worse than it is, as Jeudy was carted from the field amid Denver's joint session with the Los Angeles Rams. He came up gimpy on an end-around, immediately clutched his upper leg, and was "visibly upset," unable to walk off under his own power, per NFL Network's James Palmer.
"It's a hamstring," head coach Sean Payton told reporters after practice. "He’ll get an MRI, and we’ll kind of see where he’s at with it. Nothing more.”
Jeudy is no stranger to injury, having yet to complete a full NFL campaign since entering the league as a 2020 first-round pick. He missed seven games in 2021 due to a high-ankle sprain and two games last season with a strained ankle muscle.
The Broncos, too, are no stranger, having already lost WRs Tim Patrick (torn Achilles) and Jalen Virgil (torn meniscus) to season-ending maladies.
Left standing atop the depth chart are Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Marquez Callaway, and Brandon Johnson. Behind them are the likes of Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Kendall Hinton, Montrell Washington, and Michael Bandy.
To that end, Payton cautioned it's "way too early" to determine who will step up in Jeudy's absence.
"Typically, in our system, too, we bring receivers in and out," he said. "He plays ‘Z,’ and he plays in the sub-position for us. We have a lot of guys.
