After Third Nomination, Browns QB Joe Flacco Earns Weekly Award
It turns out the third time really is the charm.
Browns veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was nominated for the the FedEx Air Player of the Week this past weekend, after completing 27 of his 42 passes, for 368 yard and three touchdown in the team's 36-22 win over Texans.
The effort marked the seventh best performance of Flacco's career in terms of passing yards, slotting one spot lower that his 374-yard, two TD effort against the Bears one week prior. That outing also earned the 16-year veteran a nomination for FedEx Air Player of the Week, as did a 311-yard, three TD performance back in Week 14 in a win over the Jaguars. Flacco didn't receive enough votes for either of his previous nominations to win the award, which is chosen by NFL fans.

In his four starts for Cleveland, the Browns are 3-1, as the 38-year-old has seemingly turned back the clock in the late stages of his fading career. Flacco has the most touchdown passes by a Browns QB over his first four starts with 10, to go along with and the most passing yards over that same span with 1,307. He also leads the league in both those categories since Week 13.
For this week's recognition, Flacco is up against Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns and Panthers QB Bryce Young, who had 312 yards and two touchdowns. Last week, Flacco lost out to 49ers QB Brock Purdy and two weeks back to ex-Browns QB Baker Mayfield.
The FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week are one of the NFL's weekly awards, recognizing the top quarterbacks and running backs around the league in any given week.
