Browns Worked Out Pair of Edge Rushers

The Cleveland Browns reportedly worked out a pair of edge rushers on Sunday. One of which is a former draft pick and played in thirty-eight games over his first three seasons.

In addition to working out linebacker Charles Wiley, as we wrote about earlier here. It appears that the Cleveland Browns also worked out linebacker Jonathan Garvin, according to Aaron Wilson.

Garvin, (6'4", 257 lbs) played collegiately at Miami, and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Garvin played his first three seasons with the Packers and played in 38 games with the team, including 14 games last year. He has recorded 1.5 sacks and 17 tackles during his career.

Though Garvin is listed as a linebacker, he would be a defensive end in the Jim Schwartz scheme. He has decent size and tested well with his vertical and broad jump but the knock on his game seems to be his lateral agility and often getting too far up the field while trying to set the edge.

It came as a bit of a surprise to Packers fans when he was released a few weeks ago. Apparently the Packers social media team wished him a Happy Birthday, to only be released by the team a few hours later.

Whether either of these edge players ultimately sign with the team, it certainly seems as if the Browns are looking to add to the defensive end group. The opportunity for either would be to make enough of an impression to make it on to the practice squad. Both Wiley and Garvin possess similar size and skill sets and it looks as if the Browns are looking for a particular type.
