Who Will Be Starting At Quarterback For Browns Against Rams?
The quarterback carousel continues for the Browns as they turn into a key, Week 13 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
Rookie signal caller, Dorian Thompson-Robinson remains in the conclusion
protocol following a violent hit from Broncos safety, Baron Browning that forced him from Sunday's 29-12 loss to Denver. Kevin Stefanski once again confirmed that on Monday.
The Browns head man wasn't ready to make any assumptions though about who his quarterback would be when Cleveland takes on the Rams Sunday.
"I'm gonna let the protocol play out," Stefanski said in regards to DTR's status for the week. "We'll work through all that this week," Stefanski said. We have P.J. [Walker], we have Joe [Flacco] if Dorian's not available.
If that does end up being the case there is speculation that the powers that be would turn to newly signed veteran, Flacco to start under center in Thompson-Robinson's absence. Stefanski stayed mum on the subject, but seemed to hint that the job was DTR's, if he does clear concussion protocols, as Flacco continues to get up to speed with the offense.
"I think with all of our players that you get during the season, obviously you work them in the meetings rooms, out on the practice field, see where they are," Stefanski stated. We'll see where it goes, where this week goes based on, obviously, Dorian's health."
Context is key, and Stefanski's answer seems to at least suggest that the fifth-round pick could still be in line to start if he does clear the league's concussion protocols in time. In fairness to Stefanski, predicting whether or not that is going to happen is impossible, as the standard to return to action varies player-to-player.
For example, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin suffered a concussion over four weeks ago in a win over Arizona and has yet to play in a game since.
Browns Provide Update On Severity Of Myles Garrett's Shoulder Injury
Prior to brutal third-quarter hit – which was penalized for roughing the passer – Thompson-Robsinson had completed 14-of-29 passes, for 134 yards and a touchdown. A number of dropped passes didn't help his efforts either, but the performance was enough to have the Browns within a single possession of the Broncos.
The ex-XFLer, Walker wound up relieving Thompson-Robinson.
The 24-year-old did take to Instagram to provide an update on his status on Sunday night, sharing that he is "doing great."
For now, the question of who will be under center for the Browns in LA remains a mystery. The week of practice ahead will provide a clearer picture as to whether or not the Browns will have their young rookie back leading the charge, or their fourth different starting QB of the season.
