Super Bowl LVIII Prediction: Who Wins Between Chiefs and 49ers And Who Earns MVP?

While the Browns season may have fallen short of a Super Bowl run, our staff has some thoughts of their own on Sunday's big game. Find out who they predict to win Super Bowl LVIII and take home MVP for the contest.
In this story:

The Browns may not have made it to the NFL's final weekend to be playing in Super Bowl LVIII this weekend, but millions of NFL fans will sit down to watch the Chiefs and 49ers do battle on Sunday to conclude the 2023 season.

Beyond the contest being a rematch of Super Bowl LIV there are a number of intriguing storylines surrounding this game, from Patrick Mahomes legacy should he win a third ring, to Kyle Shanahan's reputation if he loses on this stage again.

So who comes out victorious and who wins Super Bowl MVP?

Anthony Moeglin: 49ers 24, Chiefs 21

Ive been burned three times already in the playoffs by Mahomes, so Im going back to the well! The difference is this, I believe that the 49ers are built to beat the Chiefs and I think that Kyle Shanahan will have his A Game on Sunday. The Chiefs struggle to stop the run and no one to this point in the playoffs have tried to expose it. The 49ers are going to shrink the game by running Christian McCaffery all day and it will be enough to overcome the magic of Mahomes.

Super Bowl 58 MVP: Christian McCaffery

If the 49ers get it done it is because CMC has the game of his life. He has proven time and time again that he is one of the best running backs in football and the 49ers are going to lean heavily on him. McCaffery will have to have 25 plus touches, 125 plus yards and two scores for San Francisco to win. If he does that, give him the MVP.

Brendan Gulick: Chiefs 24, 49ers 22

This matchup should be so much fun to watch because based on what we saw in the regular season, this game should definitely favor San Francisco. But based on the way the playoffs have gone, I'm far more impressed with Kansas City and the 49ers have looked vulnerable. I tend to think this will be a lower scoring game, as far as some of Mahomes' playoff performances have gone. San Francisco's defense is excellent, but ultimately I think Mahomes and company will make enough plays. I think Brock Purdy will play well too, but there's something special about the way the Chiefs have been able to turn it on when the pressure ratchets up this postseason. This is truly a dynasty and I think their legacy builds on Sunday in Vegas.

Spencer German: Chiefs 25, 49ers 24

I'm done picking against Mahomes. Kansas City is 6-1 with an extra week to prepare for a team, with the only loss coming to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55. Brady ain't walking through that door for San Francisco. They've got Brock Purdy and in a game that I think could play out pretty closely into the final minutes I like Mahomes chances to deliver in crunch time like he's done so many times before. The 49ers are also giving up over 159 yards rushing on the ground the playoffs, something Kansas City could really exploit with Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs defense is also really, really good. Mahomes, Kelce and Andy Reid earn a third ring in five years, cementing the Chiefs as a dynasty.

Super Bowl 58 MVP: Patrick Mahomes

Just five times in the last 17 Super Bowls has the MVP not been a quarterback so it feels like a safe bet that if I'm picking the Chiefs to win Mahomes gets the nod. Pacheco is an intriguing pick as well but you have to go back to Super Bowl XXXII in 1998 to find the last time a running back earned the award. Terrell Davis is the last to do it.
