Baker Mayfield Praises Oklahoma Quarterback After Win Over Texas
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gotten off to a rather impressive 3-1 start to the NFL season, given the situation that has left Baker Mayfield succeeding Tom Brady.
With help from what Oklahoma fans would call "Baker magic," the Buccaneers offense has looked solid and done enough to take down some tough teams. During the bye week after the good start, Mayfield made a trip to Texas to watch his alma mater play in the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas, one of the most historic college football battles.
In recent years, Oklahoma has dominated the matchup, until last year when Texas ousted Oklahoma 49-0. Again, it lined up perfectly for Mayfield to be able to make the trip. This led to him joining the Pat McAfee Show and College Gameday ahead of the matchup.

This year, it was a rather memorable matchup, and it was good that Mayfield was there to see Oklahoma take down Texas 34-30 as quarterback Dillon Gabriel led Oklahoma down the field in just over a minute to take a lead, which would eventually win the game.
Of course, George Stoia of SoonerScoop had to ask Mayfield about the drive from Gabriel, given his memorable moments as a Sooner.
“Gutsy. I think he’s tough as nails. A gutsy guy," Mayfield said. "Just how cool, calm, collected he was on the last drive when the stadium is about as loud as it could be, he drives them right down the field and makes it look easy. Unreal.”
This is high praise coming from the Buccaneers quarterback. He's got a statue of himself standing tall in Heisman Park in Norman, OK. He's got a good judgment of the game as someone who played in it, too.
Now, as Mayfield and the Buccaneers have gotten off to an impressive start, fans can only hope there will be more "Baker magic" left in the tank that's going to win some games on final drives.
