Buccaneers OC Dave Canales 'Going To Be Highly Successful' Says Seahawks Pete Carroll

Referring to his former quarterbacks coach as a "young gun", the Seattle Seahawks head coach expects great things from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers new offensive coordinator.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales was a relatively late entry to the race for the job.

Not being a person many discussed before it was announced he was being interviewed, the Bucs came in fast and hard to hire their new offensive play-caller, and it's something his former head coach is excited to see.

"He is one of the young guns," Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told Pewter Report's Matt Matera at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday. "He's one of the guys that we see coming through the league that, you know, have that kind of connection to creativity, to freedom of thought, openness, that allow for so many good, young guys to make it."

A shift in approach across the NFL has occurred in recent years moving from older authority figure-type coaches to younger and oftentimes flashier minds.

And quite often, those young exciting minds come from the offensive side of the ball.

"Dave is one of the guys that fits right in with that," Carroll stated.

And if you want to know what kind of offensive mind Canales is bringing to Tampa Bay, you may just need to look at what Carroll likes to do during his tenure in Seattle.

"He has been so deeply involved with us that he is us," Carroll said. "I mean, he is, we talk the same language. We see things the same way. We talk the same...Dave is a guy who, for me, I have always gone to him to communicate with him, because he has great vision and great insights and he works really, really well with people."

That ability to work well with others is certainly something that drew the Buccaneers to Canales.

Especially coming out of a season that ended with reports that the previous offensive coordinator and play-caller didn't do that so well.

"So to me he's going to be highly successful," Carroll concluded. "I don't see anything but that...I love the connection. And I'm rooting for him."

High praise for Tampa Bay's new offensive coordinator, comes from a man who knows him well and has had a lot of success with him in the past.
