Buccaneers' Ownership Receives Brutal NFLPA Report Card From Players

Not the greatest look for the Buccaneers' organization.
In this story:

The National Football League Player’s Association just released their 2nd annual Team Report Cards on Wednesday. The report cards are a semi-new idea brought forth by the players themselves to create a sort of “free agency guide”. This came to fruition last season during the inaugural launch of Team Report Cards. Teams are graded on an A-F scale in a number of areas that are related to organization including treatment of families, food/cafeteria, ownership, head coach, and even dietitians and training staff.

The Team Report Cards aren’t just voted on by just anybody. You must be a player, working for the players to be able to vote. Every player in the NFL is asked to participate and this year 77% of the players participated, up +17% to the inaugural year.

Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were in the bottom half of the league overall as they came in 26th out of 32 NFL franchises. This year, the Buccaneers did improve, however it was only by a modest two spots as they moved up to 24th.

With a couple new categories added in, the Buccaneers didn’t fair well this past season in treatment of families, team travel, and ownership. Whereas they saw bright spots when it came to strength, conditioning & diet, along with head coach.

Players will not strictly decide for or against an organization based off of these rankings - see the Kansas City Chiefs who have won multiple Super Bowls over the past few seasons - but it does provide a good litmus test for players who may be unfamiliar with a franchise and give them a bit of background about how they are perceived around the league.

There wasn’t much change from 2022-23 to 2023-24 with how the Buccaneers handle their business inside the organization, but it wouldn’t hurt to start seeing some upgrades in a few of these areas to make Tampa Bay that much more of a desirable market to play in.
