Buccaneers’ Thursday Practice Observations, Mike Evans Looks Fantastic

Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans are continuing to build their chemistry in practice.
In this story:

Ryan Jensen is at practice but is still not participating and there are no signs that he will be anytime soon. Calijah Kancey looks mobile and is moving around well but is still not participating in practice.

It was another great day for Baker Mayfield, leading the first-team offense. Kyle Trask was up and down in his performance, while he did have a high completion percentage he was not as aggressive downfield as Baker was.

The team had more of a light day that they used to prepare for the upcoming pre-season game against the Ravens.

We first saw a red zone 11 on 11 period led by Mayfield and the first team offense with Kyle Trask and the second team offense going next.

Mayfield was 11 of 15 with 2 drops in that period. He was extremely efficient and accurate in that period. Two of his incompletions were drops from the receivers, with the other two throws being thrown out of bounds.

Over that period Mike Evans led the receivers with 2 touchdowns, 4 catches, and 5 targets. Chris Godwin also had a great touchdown in the back of the endzone. Mayfield is building more and more chemistry with his receivers.

Trask was 9 of 14 over the same red zone period. The Bucs spent the first part of this period having Trask as the scout team QB emulating what the Ravens will be showing them on Saturday night. Trask had 4 rushing attempts.

Then both quarterbacks got a simulated drive versus the defense with Baker and the first-team offense going first.

Baker was 6 of 9 in his drive with two drops and the drive ending in a touchdown throw to Sean Tucker. Baker was very good on the drive, he had the two drops and one throw-away.

Tucker was splitting the first team reps with Rachaad White, while it was only one drive it is definitely something to monitor.

Baker has looked very good versus the Buccaneers defense, he has made the right decision almost every play in the last few days of practice since being named the starter.

Trask was 7-8 in his drive but they didn't finish with a score and were stopped by the defense. Overall he was fine, but not outstanding. He is just not aggressive and was quite conservative.

Trask is a decent backup who is capable of running the first-team offense, but Baker can do everything he can and has been a better more aggressive playmaker throughout this week of practice.

Good day of practice for the first-team offense and the first-team defense. The first-team offense was especially effective in the red zone scoring seven touchdowns.
