Buccaneers' Wide Receiver's Wife Calls Out Head Coach Todd Bowles

Buccaneers' WR Chris Godwin's wife teed off on head coach Todd Bowles for his lack of usage in the team's passing game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' wide receiver Chris Godwin is known for being humble and doing whatever it takes to win without criticizing the number of touches or game plan that is in place.

However recently it seems as if the offense has shied away from getting Godwin the ball even when he is in the game and open on routes. Godwin himself still hasn't said anything publicly about his lack of use in the offense, but his wife, Mariah, however, is letting her feelings be known following post-game comments made by head coach Todd Bowles.

In a series of Instagram story posts, Mariah Godwin took aim at Bowles' comments that Chris was being taken off the field - a shaky reasoning on why the stud wide receiver wasn't seeing as much work as he has in previous seasons.

Bucs' head coach Todd Bowles spoke to the fact that Godwin's injuries and subsequent "subbing" out was the reason behind him not being as involved. But with receipts being pulled that doesn't seem to be the case.

Mariah called the comments "infuriating" and called for Bowles to "stop lying" on Chris.

“I’m not sure why we are just blatantly lying here,” Mariah Godwin wrote on Instagram. “Regardless of how banged up Chris is, he continues to work his ass off and hasn’t missed a game. [C]ontinues to run great routes and get open.

“I don’t know why things are the way they are, this isn’t my team to coach. But this lying on Chris and implying negativity on his work ethic is infuriating. Let’s not act like he had to be subbed out so much more than usual when in fact he’s been playing just the same.”

Mariah pulled receipts of Godwin's snap counts over this season's games and on Sunday he played 84% of the snaps, so in all reality she is correct that Bowles shouldn't be using the excuse that he was being subbed out or limited due to his injuries.

There have been multiple instances over the course of the season where Godwin has seemingly been wide open but passed up on for another throw - many of which didn't result in any positive yardage. Mariah has every right to be upset with what Bowles is throwing out there as he is using it as an excuse rather than calling it what it is - Baker Mayfield and the offense is just not getting him the ball.

It's plain and simple. Godwin should be getting the ball more and it is exemplified by him being open and the quarterback not even looking his way. Mariah Godwin may be the wife of an NFL player, but she has grown up around the sport her entire life and is not just your casual fan. When she speaks, she knows what she is talking about.

Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers might want to pay attention a bit more or at least be a bit more aware of what they are saying publicly instead of dancing around what is actually going on.
