Chris Godwin Talks Bucs' Quarterback Battle After Day One of Training Camp

With one day of training camp in the books, leaders of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are being asked to weigh in on the quarterback competition between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.
In this story:

There's no question that Chris Godwin has led by example for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers throughout his six seasons with the team.

Now, with Tom Brady having finally decided to hang up his cleats for good (we think), Godwin will become one of the players on the Bucs' roster who is expected to take on a more vocal leadership role.

It's something that his teammate, Tristan Wirfs, has also acknowledged as a newfound opportunity for himself.

Part of being a leader is being faced with tougher questions to answer. One of the most commonly asked questions surrounding the Buccaneers this offseason is the quarterback competition between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.

So following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' first official day of Training Camp earlier today, you better believe that Godwin was asked to offer his opinion on the two players who are battling it out for the right to call themselves the successor to Tom Brady in Tampa.

When asked about how the two compare to one another, Godwin offered the following response.

"I guess the way they carry themselves is a little bit different. I think like Kyle is a little bit more laid back and Baker has a little bit more of a chip on his shoulder, for whatever reason. That's the biggest thing so far. They both throw really good balls. They both have the ability to process information fast and get us in the right spots. I guess just their personalities, but that's not to say that one is better than the other."

Many people believe that although the team is framing the quarterback position as a competition, it's Baker Mayfield's job to lose. But if today was any indication, it does indeed appear as though both Mayfield and Trask will receive an equal opportunity to earn (or lose) the starting job.

And until the day that head coach, Todd Bowles, names his starting quarterback for Week 1, Chris Godwin — and many other members of the Bucs roster — better get used to answering questions about the team's quarterback situation.
