Former Buccaneer Has Strong Things to Say About Baker Mayfield
Former Buccaneer Richard Sherman was on FS1's Undisputed the Monday after the Buccaneers 26-9 win over the New Orleans Saints and he was very complimentary of Baker Mayfield.
Sherman noted that the combination of Mayfield's play, the Buccaneers veteran receivers, and new OC Dave Canales have created a recipe for success.
He believes that this early success is not a flash in the pan and can continue.
"Baker is doing a great job, what he is doing is very sustainable. Dave Canales is doing a great job putting him in a position to be successful. He has two pro-bowl-caliber receivers."
Sherman played for the Seattle Seahawks for 7 seasons (2011-2017) and Canales was the wide receivers coach those same 7 years that Sherman was in Seattle.

This off-season Baker Mayfield signed a $4 million deal and is currently making less than backup quarterbacks (Sam Darnold, Marcus Mariota, and Taylor Heinicke). That showed that many around the league did not want to make Baker their starter.
Sherman hinted that this could have been his last chance to start in the league and Mayfield is succeeding so far.
"This is a perfect situation. Every game he wins, he is putting off them getting his replacement... He's playing for his career. I am loving it because he is going to survive and get himself a nice deal this off-season."

Mayfield and Canales have gotten off to a hot start and have been very effective on third down. Mayfield ranks 6th in the league in EPA/play on all plays and 2nd in EPA/play on third down.
The Buccaneers are 3-1 after 4 games and are in first place in the NFC South with their bye this week.
