Former Buccaneers Super Bowl Champion Wide Receiver Signs With Rams

A former Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has received a second chance with the Los Angeles Rams.

This time of the year is huge for the football news cycle. College football has begun, NFL preseason is a thing of the past, and Week 1 is right around the corner. For some football players, though, this is cut season.

For former Tyler Johnson, both cuts and being signed were in the cards leading up to regular season play. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver was on both ends of the spectrum after training camp and preseason.

Having not made the final 53-man roster with the Los Angeles Rams, Johnson was picked up by the team's practice squad.

The Minnesota product spent the first two seasons of his three-year career in Tampa Bay, having been on the 2020 Super Bowl-winning team alongside Tom Brady. He picked up 529 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 48 receptions during his Tampa Bay Tenure.

Johnson spent the last season with the Houston Texans, appearing in just two games. He was picked up off waivers from the Buccaneers by the Texans initially, signaling the end of his tenure with the Buccaneers.

After initially departing from the Buccaneers, Johnson was given a second chance with the team on the practice squad before being signed and waived by the Las Vegas Raiders.

This adversity is nothing new for Johnson, as mentioned. This time, however, poses the potential for this to be his last chance. He has been unable to find his footing thus far, and trying to do so with his back against the wall will be a challenge.

Johnson was solid throughout the preseason and brought a steady impact. If injuries are to ensue and infect the Rams' wide receiver room, it's hard to imagine Johnson's phone won't be going off with an opportunity to join the main squad.

There's still hope for the former Buccaneer and Super Bowl champion.
