Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Ready For Quarterback Battle to End
The quarterback battle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is rolling into the second week of preseason football. In that battle are Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. While both quarterbacks would like to win the job, Mayfield is ready for the competition to be resolved.
When asked about whether or not he was ready for the battle to end, Mayfield answered, "I am."
Mayfield signed with the Buccaneers following Tom Brady's retirement. The idea was that Mayfield, a former No. 1 overall pick and Heisman winner, would get a chance to restore his career on a team that had a gaping hole at the position.

However, Mayfield then entered a quarterback battle. It's been going on for some time now. He, like wide receiver Mike Evans and the rest of the Buccaneers fan base, is ready for the answer as to who will be the starting quarterback for the team.
There's potential that the answer could be revealed after the second preseason game. Mayfield started the first preseason game and looked in rhythm and maintained good control of the ball. Now, Trask will get that same opportunity.
“You definitely want to be in there with the ones the whole time,” Mayfield said ahead of the second preseason matchup. “But luckily, being in Tampa, the skill guys have to rotate all the time. So even if you’re with the No. 1 O-line, you might not have Mike (Evans) and Chris (Godwin). So you should make the most of your opportunities when it comes to routes on air."
Evidently, preseason provides a good opportunity to get a feel of the game, but the quarterbacks aren't always in the same position they will be come Week 1 of the regular season.
“It definitely does (help),” Mayfield said. “Now when it comes down to it, skills guys and your best players don’t really play in the preseason anymore. For quarterbacks, you have to go through your process no matter who is in there.
The Buccaneers should soon be able to solve the question mark that is the starting quarterback in the regular season, and the second preseason game might be the deciding factor if Mayfield is able to show control despite coming off the bench initially.
