Tom Brady Admits He Was 'Definitely Inebriated' When Throwing Lombardi Trophy Off Boat
Tom Brady has made a lot of impressive throws in his day.
The vast majority of those throws took place on green fields in a wide variety of different stadiums located throughout the United States.
But his best throw of all? It may have been the one that he made on the open water.
When celebrating his 7th Lombardi Trophy — his first since leaving New England — with his new Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates, things got crazy.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Have Tough Decisions to Make Regarding In-House Free Agents
The Bucs had just made an improbable Super Bowl run after taking on a murderer's row of teams, each led by elite quarterbacks, in what was the 43-year-old quarterback's debut season with the Buccaneers.
Because it was the COVID season, traditional celebration methods weren't exactly in play. So how did the Buccaneers adjust? Just like any group of pirates would... they partied on the water.
And as the day wore on, and the Florida sun had worked its magic, things got even crazier.
An hour or two after the infamous trophy toss had taken place — which had already gone fully viral on social media by that point — Brady could be seen stumbling onto dry land with the assistance of his backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert, ultimately signaling the conclusion of the epic parade.
Although it was pretty obvious that Brady had been enjoying more than just the sunshine that day on the water, his level of intoxication was never discussed publicly.
Until now.
On a recent episode of his Let's Go Podcast, Brady was joined by his longtime friend and teammate from his time in New England and Tampa Bay, Rob Gronkowski.
Buccaneers Make Series Of Roster Moves Ahead Of Road Game In Green Bay
During their discussion, Gronk asked Brady whether he was "actually drunk, or tipsy" when he decided to launch the Lombardi Trophy from his boat to another.
Brady responded, "I was definitely inebriated because had I not been there, I don't think I would've taken the chance in realizing that thing would've fell like 90 feet to the bottom of the bay," Brady said. "Would've been a disaster for me."
So there you have it. Not only did Tom Brady make one of the best throws of his career... on the water, but he did it when he was drunk.
If we've learned anything from re-living this iconic moment in Tampa sports history, it's that anything can happen when the goat is on a boat.
