'Trending Towards Being Mayfield': Chris Godwin Supports Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Tom Brady is officially retired, and this time the team has a replacement quarterback in plan... sort of.
One of Baker Mayfield or Kyle Track will snag the starting quarterback spot, and it's trending towards being Mayfield. He's gotten support from his players, with one recent player being wide receiver Chris Godwin.
“Sometimes quarterbacks may have like that, not like an arrogance to them, but like a confidence to them where they try to overlead too soon,” Godwin said.

Godwin then went on to say Mayfield isn't like that and inferred that it makes him easier to follow as a leader.
For Godwin, making life easier for Mayfield gives the team its best chance to surprise people this season and making the quarterback transition easier.
“Not drifting upfield and allowing the DB to undercut the ball,” Godwin said. “Working friendly angles when you’re coming out of your breaks.”
Both aspects that the receiver detailed are ways that Godwin can best put Mayfield and the offense in a position to control their possessions and make secure plays. The two will be able to build chemistry much easier by being able to connect on a much simpler basis.
"Seeing the coverages the same way that the quarterback sees the coverages so that whenever you make route adjustments, you’re all on the same page,” Godwin continued.
It seems as if Godwin is willing to do what it takes to make sure the pairing with Mayfield will go smoothly. If all works out, Mayfield's job will be made much easier and his talents will be utilized much better than he's seen in years past.
The 27-year-old is heading into his seventh NFL season, all of which have been played with the Buccaneer. So far, he's reached three 1,000-yard seasons in his career, and could potentially be heading towards a fourth one.
