Cardinals Rank at Bottom of Five-Year NFL Draft Rankings
We're nearly 24 hours away from the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Arizona Cardinals have the opportunity to reverse course on what's been an extremely tough period of drafting and developing players over the last five years.
So much so that the Cardinals finished No. 30 in the league in the New York Post's Five-Year NFL Draft rankings.
30: Arizona Cardinals
Pro Bowlers: 1
Best Pick: Kyler Murray (2019, first)
Worst Pick: Josh Rosen (2018, first)
"Arizona used back-to-back first-round picks on quarterbacks. Rosen was a terrible pick. Murray looked like a good one until recently. We’ll see if he comes back under a new coaching staff. The rest of their drafts were pretty weak," said Brian Costello.
To be fair, it's tough to find a truly good draft class in recent memory:
2022: After trading their first-round pick for Marquise Brown, the Cardinals took what was deemed a luxury pick in Trey McBride. Neither of Arizona's third-round pass rushers in Myjai Sanders or Cameron Thomas jumped off the page in their rookie campaign, either.
2021: Zaven Collins showed some promise in his second season at inside linebacker while Marco Wilson has played above his value as a fourth-round pick. The jury is still out on Rondale Moore and what he brings to the table.
2020: Should Arizona find the right spot for Isaiah Simmons, they will have nailed their first-round pick. Their next three picks in Josh Jones, Leki Fotu and Rashard Lawrence have managed to also give contributions to the team.
2019: The Cardinals found their franchise quarterback in Kyler Murray while also finding talent such as Byron Murphy and Zach Allen. Backups Deionte Thompson and Michael Dogbe were acquired in the later rounds.
2018: Josh Rosen. Christian Kirk. Mason Cole. Enough said.
The Cardinals ranked just above the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints.
