All Cardinals Scouting Report: Georgia OT Broderick Jones

If the Arizona Cardinals are looking for their next man at tackle, the search starts and ends with Georgia OT Broderick Jones.
In this story:

Broderick Jones is an offensive tackle prospect from Georgia who is coming off two national championship seasons where he proved himself and then some. Jones will likely end up being a top ten, maybe even top five, prospect in this 2023 NFL Draft class.

These reports will be published through all the important dates throughout the draft season. The Senior Bowl and Scouting Combine are the two most significant events of the draft cycle, info gathered from them and tape evaluation will help shape these grades and reports.

Important note, not all players will be reliant on those events, as they shouldn’t be, but what they can do is help paint better pictures of prospects. Here are my notes and the results of the tape evaluation from Broderick Jones.

Best Traits

Athleticism

Broderick Jones has superior athleticism for someone with his size. The ability he has allows him to be a reliable blocker in both the run and pass game giving him a versatility that not many other tackles in this class possess. While his testing numbers haven’t been done yet, he should surprise some folks with what he can do at the combine.

Plays with an Edge

Offensive tackles deal with the most aggressive players on a team's defense every snap, edge rushers. For Jones, having played in the SEC he has faced a plethora of NFL talent, including Will Anderson Jr., and he has never given up a sack. On top of all that, he plays with an edge himself and will finish blocks. He does so to the point it takes defenders out of plays and leaves them wondering where he is on the next play.

Size and Strength

To be able to finish blocks the way that Jones does he needs to possess size and strength, he has both in large amounts. Testing will help put a number on both of these traits but just by watching his film, you see that these both are present. He handles NFL-sized defensive players every game thanks to playing in the SEC, which should allow for a seamless transition to the NFL.

Overall Thoughts and Fits Into Cardinals Plans

Broderick Jones could be a centerpiece to a revamped Cardinals offense both with or without Kyler Murray, yes I just said without. Outside of the ACL, this player allows for the Cardinals to play the long game. If Murray proves to be the guy then he will be perfect for him and the offense. If they end up going in a different direction, the same rule applies.

Jones by being a centerpiece of the offense means he will be around for whatever sustained success the team has as well as whatever changes. He reminds me of Joe Thomas where no matter what happens with the rest of the team, you put him on the left side of your offensive line and you know you don’t have to worry.
