The Arizona Cardinals were a landslide No. 1 pick for the league's most unstable franchise in a survey done by The Athletic.

The Arizona Cardinals have crashed and burned to epic proportions since starting the 2021 season 7-0.

It feels like just yesterday Kyler Murray was talked about as a potential MVP candidate while the Cardinals were rolling with Chandler Jones and J.J. Watt anchoring the defensive side of the ball.

Yet things in the desert have spiraled since. The Cardinals have welcomed new faces at head coach and general manager while hitting the reset button on the roster. It's been an ugly offseason, though it's been needed if Arizona wanted to right their footsteps for the future.

Yet even off the field, the recent NFLPA report card and accusations towards owner Michael Bidwill have kept the Cardinals in headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In a recent poll conducted by The Athletic, 23 agents were anonymously surveyed for various topics around the league. When asked who the most unstable NFL franchise was, the Cardinals gained nine of those votes, more than double of the next-highest team (Indianapolis with 4).

Here's what a few agents said to author Ben Standig:

• “(The Cardinals) have stable owners, but the franchise’s mentality and financial plan aren’t sound. Now on a path to not-win to dump Kyler Murray and position itself for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for Caleb Williams. The organization hasn’t been good even when posting positive records.”

• “Had a client considering signing there. He checked with a friend on the team and was told, ‘Don’t come here.’ The Kyler contract. GM resigns. Accusations against the owner. Maybe the new GM and coach change things. Maybe.”

• “The usual suspects have cleaned up their act or are trying. Snyder’s gone. The Bengals would be a consideration, but Duke Tobin and Joe Burrow have them turned around. Let’s go Cardinals.”

There is hope for the future, however. Monti Ossenfort has done a nice job of wiping the slate clean in terms of salary cap and draft picks for 2024, a year where they could potentially be in play for a handful of franchise-altering players.
