B/R Projects Cardinals' Biggest Bust in 2023
When it comes to projecting the 2023 Arizona Cardinals, things can be tough.
The overall health and return date of quarterback Kyler Murray remains the biggest question surrounding a team that has lost notable figures such as J.J. Watt and DeAndre Hopkins this offseason.
Working under first-timers at general manager, head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, the Cardinals enter this season as inexperienced as any team in the NFL.
As such, there's a handful of names that could be considered to have a down year heading into 2023 - Bleacher Report believes that will be WR Marquise Brown.
"When the Cardinals traded a first-round pick for Marquise Brown last year it was supposed to be the beginning of the transition from DeAndre Hopkins as WR1," wrote Alex Ballentine.
"Hopkins was suspended for the first six games of the year which gave Brown the opportunity to shine. Instead, Brown was slightly less productive than he was with the Ravens on a per-game basis and Hopkins was the team's top receiver when he returned to the lineup.
"He led the team in receiving despite Brown playing in three more games.
"Now Brown will attempt to make good on his potential without Hopkins in the lineup and Kyler Murray facing a murky timeline in his return from an ACL tear.
"The 5'9", 180-pound Brown is going to continue to struggle to show that he's a true elite receiving threat with Colt McCoy set to start some games for the Cards."
In a total of eight games without Hopkins, Brown secured 50 catches for 553 yards and three touchdowns according to StatMuse. Though he'll be without Murray to start the season, he still enters 2023 as Arizona's undisputed WR1.
