Ex-Cardinals DC Vance Joseph Hired by Broncos, per Report
Upon the arrival of Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, speculation swirled on the status of defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Gannon - hailing from a defensive background - wouldn't have necessarily needed Joseph on his staff, but after meeting with reporters last Thursday Gannon said that he would talk with Joseph about his future with the Cardinals.
Hours later, Joseph was released out of his contract after signing an extension last offseason.
A week later, he has a new home.
Multiple NFL insiders have reported Joseph is heading back to Denver to be the defensive coordinator of the Broncos. He also interviewed for two days with the Philadelphia Eagles for their opening as well.
Joseph had been with Arizona since 2019 and was interviewed to potentially replace Kliff Kingsbury after he was fired. The Cardinals instead hired Gannon and brought on 29-year-old Nick Rallis, the youngest defensive coordinator in the league.
Joseph returns to Denver after a two-year stint as their head coach and replaces Ejiro Evero, who encountered a similar situation with Denver where they hired a new head coach and was subsequently released from his contract.
Joseph will now be working under Sean Payton, another candidate who interviewed for the Cardinals job. He arrives to a Denver defense that still performed fairly solid even after trading away Bradley Chubb.
Broncos fans hope Joseph's defensive unit in Denver can perform better than Arizona's in 2022, where they allowed 348.9 yards and 26.4 points per game.
