Inside Look: Cardinals Begin Week 2 of Training Camp
The Arizona Cardinals began week two of training camp today. Here's everything we saw.
In this story:
GLENDALE -- The Arizona Cardinals began their fifth practice of their 2023 training camp period, kicking off the second week of preparations ahead of the preseason.
It was a low-tempo practice compared to previous ones. Team activities featured no true competitive effort from the defensive side, allowing receivers to catch passes as to not interfere with the progress of the play.
With the Cardinals able to don full pads beginning tomorrow (Aug. 1), perhaps the team felt it was needed while still keeping the energy up.
More notes:
- There was a defensive package that featured Zaven Collins and Cameron Thomas as edge players on the right side of the line of scrimmage while Dennis Gardeck anchored the left. There's also been some looks where the Cardinals haven't utilized Isaiah Simmons as a deep safety and ran with the traditional pairing of Budda Baker/Jalen Thompson.
- Myjai Sanders - who walked off the field with an apparent arm injury earlier last week - was spotted with a cast on his right hand and in street clothes while the edge players went through drills.
- Christian Matthew took CB1 reps opposite of Marco Wilson today. Kei'Trel Clark had previously seen time in that role.
- Jonathan Gannon told us last week there would be some shakeups when it came to the offensive line. Today, the same typical starting five (including Paris Johnson at RT) was utilized.
