J.J. Watt Vouches for DeAndre Hopkins After Cardinals Release
The Arizona Cardinals released WR DeAndre Hopkins earlier today - and as expected - social media went ablaze.
Nearly everyone was able to throw their two cents in on the matter, asking questions on how the Cardinals let a talent like Hopkins walk and what a potential next move could be for the All-Pro receiver.
One current Cardinals player in Isaiah Simmons wasn't exactly thrilled. Simmons spent a lot of time with his fellow Clemson Tiger product off the field.
Former Cardinals (and Texans) teammate J.J. Watt took to Twitter to vouch for the now free agent receiver, saying "Hop still has the best hands in the league."
Cutting Hopkins will save the Cardinals nearly $9 million and will not take on any of his remaining cap charges in 2024, which is likely why Arizona opted to release him now.
Hopkins spent the first seven years of his career with the Houston Texans after drafting him in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Cardinals in 2020 for running back David Johnson, a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick.
In 35 games for the Cardinals, Hopkins reeled in 221 passes for 2,696 yards and 17 touchdowns.
In total, he has five All-Pro nods with five Pro Bowl appearances.
