Cardinals' Colt McCoy Falls to Bottom of NFL QB Rankings

The Arizona Cardinals will look to rely on Colt McCoy while Kyler Murray rehabs his torn ACL. PFF says that won't work too well.
In this story:

The Arizona Cardinals aren't expecting Kyler Murray to be ready for Week 1, and the quarterback's status heading into the rest of 2023 is still unknown.

While Murray works through rehabbing his torn ACL, the Cardinals will likely rely on the talents of veteran Colt McCoy until the former No. 1 pick can confidently return.

Pro Football Focus isn't very high on McCoy, ranking him No. 29 out of 32 projected starters ahead of the 2023 season.

"With Kyler Murray not likely to be ready until late in the season, if at all, McCoy will helm the Cardinals' offense for most of the season. It would be easy to assume that’s the worst quarterback situation in the league, but the chances are that one of the better backups in the game performs better than some of the young starters. McCoy has handled more than 100 dropbacks in each of the past two seasons, completing 71% of his passes at 6.6 yards per attempt over that time."

McCoy finished ahead of C.J. Stroud, Desmond Ridder and Anthony Richardson. He finished just behind Jordan Love, Sam Howell and Baker Mayfield.

The Cardinals could also look to David Blough or Clayton Tune in the early parts of the season.

McCoy - who will be 37-years-old by the beginning of next season - was able to supplement wins for the Cardinals over the last two years behind Murray, though his age and health are a major concern heading into 2023.

Under a new head coach and offensive coordinator, we'll see if McCoy can step up this season.
