Cardinals Very Likely to Snag No. 1 Pick Next Year
Even with 2023 on the horizon, there's been plenty of talk around the Arizona Cardinals and what they can possibly do in 2024.
That's thanks to the work of new general manager Monti Ossenfort, who wheeled-and-dealed during draft weekend to set the Cardinals up nicely with an arsenal of early picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The two golden tickets come as first-round picks, one belonging to them and the other from the Houston Texans thanks to their trade in the first round of 2023.
With the Cardinals and Texans both expected to finish at the bottom of the league, many believe Arizona will wind up with the No. 1 overall pick next year with either pick.
Cardinals insider Kyle Odegard pointed out that the Cardinals - according to ESPN's Football Power Index - have the two best odds to land the No. 1 pick, thanks to their own (18%) and Houston's pick (13%).
The Cardinals finished 4-13 last season and didn't exactly improve their roster. Factor that into a team with a new front office and coaching staff, and Arizona isn't exactly expected to fight for a playoff spot in 2023.
The Texans - who feature a rookie quarterback and first-time head coach themselves - aren't expected to be any better.
Football is played on grass, not paper. However, the prospects of the Cardinals entering 2024 with two picks in the top five appear to be very real, which could allow Arizona to do a number of things.
With two quarterbacks considered to be the best to come out of college in quite some time (Caleb Williams and Drake Maye), the Cardinals could either take their next franchise passer if Kyler Murray doesn't pan out or trade the rights to either of those players for a massive haul.
Regardless of what Arizona will do, the Cardinals are expected to have the best chance at improving their team in next year's draft.
