A New Era of Arizona Cardinals Football Begins

At least for now, there's hope for a better future for Arizona Cardinals fans.

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Cardinals begin a new journey today.

The NFL offseason provides the opportunity for 32 fanbases across the country to indulge in some sort of hope that next season will be the year everything goes according to plan.

Heading into last year, Cardinals fans had hoped the organization could use their Wild Card round appearance as a springboard to heights only seen in years such as 2015 and 2008.

Fast forward to a year later, where Kliff Kingsbury is gone after a 4-13 season that was unbelievable for all the wrong reasons both on and off the field. Steve Keim is out of the picture, too.

A new front office and coaching staff will be accompanied by what will likely be a fresh roster of names and faces. The Cardinals have roughly 30 players that are now able to test the open market. Some will be back, sure.

However, there's room for a complete overhaul of the roster, not necessarily a bad thing given recent performances. Prominent names such as DeAndre Hopkins appear more likely to be gone than staying for 2023, too.

We're just over an hour into the legal tampering period and the Cardinals have made zero headlines - as expected. General manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon are wise to let things unfold given the current state of the team.

The futures of Zach Allen and Byron Murphy are still up in the air. Both are young and ideally fit what the Cardinals want to do for the future, but both may price themselves out of the desert.

Kyler Murray continues to rehab his torn ACL and his timetable to return remains unknown. Speculation varies across the spectrum and like any team, success heavily rides on the quarterback position. 2023 might just be a year where growing pains happen naturally.

Gannon said it best in his opening press conference:

"I look forward to working with the players. That was very appealing to me (with) some of the guys that we have on board right now. Not too many times do you take over a team and you have a franchise quarterback, so that was very appealing. I’ll head some of this stuff off right now before, we get to questions and things like that, but just know this, we’re going to be very adaptable. I’m talking the Arizona Cardinals. This is what our team’s going to be. We’re going to be adaptable; we’re going to be violent, we’re going to be explosive, and we’re going to be smart. All three phases go into that, and we will maximize the talents of the players that we have. That’s how we’re going to win games, and don’t get it twisted— we’re going to win games."

For now, the Cardinals are bystanders while others spend in free agency. Arizona won't make many moves that will "win the offseason" but rather try and properly rebuild the team through the 2023 NFL Draft.

Today marks the first day of hope Cardinals fans will carry for a brighter tomorrow. For now, that's all they can ask for.
