Cardinals Clear Winners After Bears Trade First Overall Pick
Though the Arizona Cardinals have seen plenty of smoke on what they'll be doing with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears were heavily favored to get a king's ransom for the first overall pick with a handful of top quarterbacks available to needy franchises.
Key word: were.
The Bears have reportedly agreed to trade the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers, who were initially drafting out of the No. 9 spot.
The haul back includes picks 9, 61, a future first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025 and WR D.J. Moore according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Carolina now appears to be set to take who is likely Bryce Young, though other passers such as Will Levis, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson are available for the taking too.
How the Cardinals benefit: The Cardinals (who do not need a quarterback) are now likely in the driver's seat for the No. 3 pick. With Carolina and presumably the Houston Texans picking quarterbacks in back-to-back picks, that leaves the Cardinals with keys to either trade down for whatever team is desperate enough to move up for a remaining quarterback OR select the top non-QB prospects (Jalen Carter, Will Anderson, Tyree Wilson, etc.)
