Cardinals Clear $5.3 Million in Cap Space
With free agency just days away, the Arizona Cardinals are prepping themselves by organizing their cap space and shedding some fat off the payroll.
Earlier this week, the team announced they were cutting Chosen (formerly Robbie) Anderson to save $12 million against the cap. Center Rodney Hudson is not expected to be back and will be designated as a Post-June 1 move as he likely enters retirement.
The Cardinals are set to see four of their previous starting five offensive line from 2022 depart. The sole man standing - left tackle D.J. Humphries - had some restructuring done to his deal to clear up $5.333 million according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero:
At this moment in time, the Cardinals have roughly $34 million in cap space according to Spotrac.
Humphries' cap hit for 2023 is $12.5 million, sixth-highest on the Cardinals. Arizona is potentially looking to move on from wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who has the team's largest cap hit at $30.75 million for next season.
The next highest on the team is safety Budda Baker at $16.87 million.
The Cardinals may not be done clearing cap space in an attempt to retain both Byron Murphy and Zach Allen, their top two free agents.
