Two Cardinals Land on ESPN Top 50 Free Agent List
The Arizona Cardinals are still in search of their next head coach, an obvious big building block to an offseason that carries plenty of weight in regards to the future of the organization.
Yet the Cardinals have their work cut out for them in the coming months: Arizona will need to find a suitable presence at quarterback until Kyler Murray returns from his ACL/meniscus injury.
DeAndre Hopkins' situation still needs some sorting out, and Arizona holds the keys to the No. 3 pick with potential to draft a cornerstone defensive player or trade out to regain valuable draft capital.
Not to be forgotten are the 30 free agents the Cardinals will eventually make decisions on, as some key players are potentially on their way out.
Two of which - DE Zach Allen and DB Byron Murphy - cracked ESPN's Top 50 Free Agent list heading into the offseason:
Zach Allen, Byron Murphy Land on ESPN Top 50 Free Agent List
No. 23: Zach Allen
"Allen is a player who can be moved around in sub packages to generate interior pressure. He had 5.5 sacks and 26 pressures from various alignments in the Arizona defensive front this season. He also had a run stop win rate of 37.9%, which ranked in the top 40 among all NFL defenders. The arrow is pointing up on the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Allen," said Matt Bowen.
No. 37: Byron Murphy
"Murphy intercepted four passes and had 12 pass breakups in 2021, but his production took a hit this season. He had just four breakups and didn't pick off a pass. Even with the drop in on-ball production, he has the man-coverage traits to play inside or outside the numbers, and his youth will be intriguing for teams," said Bowen.
A total of four Cardinals made PFF's Top 100 list, with both Allen and Murphy cracking the top 50 for Pro Football Focus as well.
