Michael Bidwill Projects Kyler Murray to Return Earlier Than Expected
The return of Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has been heavily debated since tearing his ACL in Week 14 of last season.
With such a devastating injury occurring later in the season, the general train of thought is Murray will certainly miss the beginning of the season and may not return until after the midway point of 2023.
By all accounts, Murray’s rehab looks to be in great shape based on the small snippets we’ve seen on social media.
It’s certainly a long road to get Murray back on the field in Arizona, but could he return ahead of schedule?
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill appeared on the Dave Pasch Podcast recently and said he believes his franchise quarterback could return sooner than projected:
"I think (his return) is going to be earlier than this midseason, so hopefully, it's toward the beginning of the season, but I don't want to put any specific dates," Bidwill said (h/t Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com.
"There could be setbacks, the progress could slow. But he's a young man, it looks like he is a fast healer, things are going well. Let's hope that keeps going the way it is."
This comes weeks after a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport that Murray was set to take his time with recovery instead of looking to rush himself back into action.
Last season, the Cardinals utilized Colt McCoy, David Blough and Trace McSorley as different starting quarterbacks in the final weeks of the year.
By then, the season was a lost cause. Now, the Cardinals look to count on somebody other than Murray to keep Arizona afloat until their franchise quarterback returns.
“Colt is coming back from an injury that is going to limit him in the offseason," Bidwill said. "It's another set of dynamics that Drew (Petzing) and JG (Jonathan Gannon) have to work through, and Monti (Ossenfort).
"We'll see what exactly the plan is. That's not for me to figure out, that's for those guys to figure out."
