Cardinals Reportedly Hire Drew Petzing as OC
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters during his introductory press conference on Thursday that the search for both an offensive and defensive coordinator would ramp up over the following 48 hours.
He wasn't kidding.
Late Saturday night, the Cardinals brought on former Philadelphia Eagles LB coach Nick Rallis. Hours later, they've found their offensive coordinator.
Arizona is reportedly bringing on Cleveland Browns QB coach Drew Petzing as their OC, per NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.
Petzing was a candidate that was tied to Gannon since before he got the job in Arizona. Petzing and Gannon spent time together when Gannon was the Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach from 2014-17.
The 36-year-old Petzing first got his start in the NFL as a football operations intern in Cleveland back in 2013. He then spent some time with the Vikings holding varying titles on the offensive side of the ball before heading back to Cleveland as tight ends coach in 2022.
With Gannon set to be heavily involved in the team's defensive play-calling, Petzing will largely run the show.
"I have a very specific vision of how I want to play on offense, and the person that comes in here to run the offense is going to understand that everything that we do will be structured around the quarterback position to maximize his skillset—and we have an elite one," said Gannon at his press conference.
Arizona also interviewed/requested to interview Drew Terrell, Joel Thomas and Troy Walters.
The Cardinals will still be in search of assistant coaches to add to their staff, but now they have their primary coordinators on both sides of the ball.
