Cardinals Trade Third Overall Pick to Texans
TEMPE -- Since the Arizona Cardinals first secured the pick on the final day of the regular season, speculation has grown around the team's status at the top of the draft.
Arizona already has their franchise quarterback in Kyler Murray, and perhaps a first-time general manager in Monti Ossenfort would want to give his team more draft picks to fill holes along the roster as the Cardinals hope to get their rebuild started off on the right foot.
For so long, we didn't know the team's fate. Now, Arizona has done the expected and traded the pick to the Houston Texans, who are moving back up from No. 12 according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Cardinals got picks 12 and 33 this year while also netting a first and third-round pick for 2024. Arizona also traded 105.
CARDS GET: 12, 33, 1st in 2024, 3rd in 2024
TEXANS GET: Pick 3, 105
After the Carolina Panthers took Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick, the Houston Texans followed by taking C.J. Stroud. They then jumped back up and are taking Will Anderson.
The Cardinals took full advantage of teams looking to trade up for their next potential franchise quarterbacks.
Among other teams reportedly interested in moving up were the Indianapolis Colts (No. 4), Seattle Seahawks (No. 5), Detroit Lions (No. 6), Atlanta Falcons (No.8) and Tennessee Titans (No. 11).
This isn't the first trade the Cardinals made tonight: As part of a tampering settlement regarding the hiring of head coach Jonathan Gannon, the Cardinals sent pick 66 (third-round) to the Philadelphia Eagles for pick 94 (third-round) and a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Arizona looks to make their first pick in the first round since 2021, as the team traded theirs away last year to secure wide receiver Marquise Brown from the Baltimore Ravens.
Potential options for the Cardinals at No. 3 were Will Anderson, Paris Johnson Jr. and Tyree Wilson.
