Marquise Brown Updates Contract Talks With Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals and Marquise Brown seem to want to continue their time together.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals are currently 2-9 on the year, and though there's still six games left on the schedule, it's never too early to be thinking about the future.

The organization is once again set to enter an important offseason that will see the team have over $60 million in cap space with plenty of draft capital in the 2024 NFL Draft.

GM Monti Ossenfort nailed his first offseason, and there's lofty expectations to do it again here in the desert.

One of the biggest questions is the status of WR Marquise Brown, who is set to enter free agency at the conclusion of the fifth and final year of his rookie contract in the coming months.

Brown didn't receive a contract extension ahead of the season, though the receiver recently told The Arizona Republic's Bob McManaman talks were positive on both sides.

“Where I come from, I’ve already made more money than I thought I could,” Brown said. "So for me, it’s a blessing to be in the NFL. I’ve got no room to be salty about anything. I’ve got no room to be bitter about anything. There’s no reason for it for me, so I just go out here and thank God that I’m here and try to be better.

“I want to be in Arizona. The feel from it is they want me here, too. I leave that to my agent and I just do what I’ve got to do on the field.”

There's expectations Brown could use former Cardinals WR Christian Kirk's recent 4-year, $72 million deal as a baseline for a new deal. With QB Kyler Murray healthy again and rookie WR Michael Wilson emerging, Brown and another outside addition (maybe a certain Ohio State player?) would create a dynamic receiving corps.

“I haven’t even asked. It’s out of my control.” Brown said when asked about the timing of a potential deal. “JG [Jonathan Gannon] preaches you can’t worry about stuff that’s not in your control. If I’m sitting here worried about that, then all my focus is not on the game plan. So, I don’t really focus on the contract.”

Time will tell if Brown ultimately gets his deal, but there's positive sentiments from both sides that he'll stay in Arizona.
