Report: Cardinals Will Release DC Vance Joseph From Contract
TEMPE -- On the same day the Arizona Cardinals welcomed Jonathan Gannon as their next head coach, they're bound to lose another in defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
According to CBS Sports' Josina Anderson, Joseph was told by the team that he would be released from his contract.
Anderson also reported that Joseph will reportedly interview with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacancy, which oddly enough was left by Gannon.
This comes just hours after reporters met with Gannon following his introductory press conference, where he admitted that he and Joseph would speak later today in regards to his future and where he fits within the staff.
Gannon - the former defensive coordinator for the Eagles - was asked in his presser if he would call defensive plays, but he defaulted to figuring that out when he actually assembled a staff.
Joseph initially arrived to Arizona in 2019 and was considered a candidate to replace Kliff Kingsbury as the team's next head coach before he eventually was put out of the race.
His prior head coaching experience with the Denver Broncos could make him an ideal defensive coordinator candidate in either Denver again or with the Eagles.
The Cardinals reportedly requested to interview Cleveland Browns QB coach Drew Petzing for their vacant offensive coordinator position.
