Report: Eric Bieniemy Next Potential Cardinals OC
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Cardinals said they would wait until after Super Bowl LVII to continue their coaching search.
Arizona is one of two clubs to not have a head coach at this moment, though the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly expected to hire Philadelphia Eagles OC Shane Steichen after today's game.
The Cardinals are looking to interview Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon on Monday, too. Gannon's defensive background would lead him to need an offensive coordinator, and one NFL agent believes Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy could come to Arizona.
Bieniemy's agent (Jason Fletcher) spoke with Pro Football Talk and offered this:
"If Bieniemy does not get the job in Indianapolis, he’ll have multiple options, per Fletcher. Bieniemy can: (1) stay with the Chiefs as offensive coordinator; (2) become the Ravens’ offensive coordinator; (3) become the Commanders’ offensive coordinator; or (4) potentially become the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator, depending on who is hired," said Mike Florio.
Bieniemy first joined Kansas City in 2013 as a running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018. He's been credited as a big part of the team's recent success despite not calling plays with Andy Reid at the helm.
A major priority for the Cardinals would be maximizing the most out of Kyler Murray, something Bieniemy may know a thing or two on doing with Patrick Mahomes.
Bieniemy has consistently found himself as one of the top coaching candidates in each cycle but has failed to hit the next step, though nobody knows the exact reason why.
