Chargers Draft News: Insider Reveals LA's Best QB Fits
For anybody that, for some insane reason, has any belief that Justin Herbert is not the Chargers QB for a very long time, they will be proven wrong when he signs a massive extension in the near future.
Numerous records have been broken by him in just his first three professional seasons and in just his second game in his rookie year, he was already starting for the Bolts. Herbert lead LA to their first playoff appearance in years in 2022 and anything less than a deep run next season will be viewed as a failure.
When looking at the draft that will take place in a couple weeks, nobody is looking at the Chargers first handful of picks and thinking they should be used on a QB. Alongside Herbert, Easton Stick was re-signed and he will serve as their backup option. However, third stringer Chase Daniel remains a free agent and that leaves a hole at that spot for LA.
ESPN's Jordan Reid revealed some of his favorite fits for LA at that spot in the draft and he started off with Fresno State's Jake Haener.
"He's more of your Case Keenum, Taylor Heinicke- type of mold where he's a little bit undersized at 6-foot, 200 pounds. He isn't super physically talented as far the arm strength. He's just like Case was when he had the great year with the Vikings. He has the moxie, he has the confidence and he has that leadership quality that you love to see at the position. He's one, I think fifth or sixth round, I think that's where he can end up going." (Via Chargers.com)
Haener has drawn interest from a number of teams that have picks in those later rounds and he could go to a franchise with top-tier mentors in Herbert and Stick.
Reid also looked Dorian Thompson-Robinson's way, who is coming off of five seasons at UCLA.
"Dorian Thompson-Robinson from UCLA is another that I think would fit the scheme really well just because of the things he was asked to do in Chip Kelly's system. I think that really translates over to what Kellen Moore asked to do previously and what he's shown."

The 2023 draft will be here before we know it and we'll be able to see if LA opts to go in either of these directions.
