Chargers Expert Believes Bolts Lack These Three Positions After NFL Draft
The NFL Draft has come and gone, and your Los Angeles Chargers did well. They revamped their roster on almost every key position they needed to and picked up some solid pieces along the way.
The Chargers needed a receiver, and they got it; they needed another edge rusher, and they got it. Although LA covered a lot of ground, one Chargers expert believes they still need more depth in these three positions after the draft.
Gavino Borquez of Chargers Wire said the team needs to address: tight end, cornerback, and safety. Here is what Borquez had to say about the tight end position.
Tight End
Los Angeles returns all tight ends from last season: Gerald Everett, Donald Parham, Tre’ McKitty and Stone Smartt. But this group lacks a proven run blocker, a big factor in their struggles in that department last season. If they don’t address this, the Chargers are banking on Parham staying healthy for a full season and McKitty making a leap in Year 3.
It was no secret LA needed a pass catcher, and they acquired such with their first-round pick, wide receiver from TCU Quentin Johnston. Many experts believed LA would get a tight end with their first-round choice but opted for no tight end at all. This year's tight-end class was stacked with talent; however, LA chose not to go down that route.
The safety and cornerback positions were also not addressed in the draft, but when you have the talents like CB J.C. Jackson and safety Derwin James, why to add more depth, right? (sarcasm). Jackson is currently recovering from an injury, and James has been known to be injury-prone in his NFL career.
LA must address those positions before training camp, and we'll see if they'll do that via undrafted free agents or free agents.
