Beyond just the Chargers' final game of the 2022 season where they folded and dropped a huge lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars, it had become clear that they were losing creativity on the offensive side of the ball. The running success rate was dropping tremendously, similar plays were being called and while this was in large part due to numerous injuries, Joe Lombardi's leadership played a big role too.

And we all know what happened next... Lombardi was fired and Kellen Moore was hired in his place. Everybody is super excited to see the entire offensive group develop under him and Moore has already made it clear he wants to use all of his weapons, even if they are not stars. Head coach Brandon Staley has usually made things work with a five-man WR rotation but things could be different in 2023.

Quentin Johnston was selected with the 21st pick by the Chargers in this year's draft and he possesses a skillset and physique that makes him NFL-ready. He clocked in 60 receptions and logged over 1,000 yards in his final season at TCU.

He could be the missing piece for LA to run with six receivers this coming season, especially when you consider that both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams have suffered injuries over the past couple of years and maybe their load should lessened.

Chargers Wire's Alex Insdorf definitely wants to see this happen in 2023,

"If the Chargers decided to carry five wide receivers for the upcoming season, Jalen Guyton would be the odd man out in a final Allen-Williams-Johnston-Palmer-Davis depth chart. Given his connection with quarterback Justin Herbert that has been built up over the years and his straight-line deep speed, it’s a hard cut to truly imagine taking place."

"Considering the Chargers’ future, current position group health concerns, and the necessities of what the Moore offense will require, rolling six deep at wide receiver makes more sense than the traditional Staley five."

He certainly laid out some good points... we'll have to see how the plans ends up forming as the season looms closer.
