You can add Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert to the list of unfortunate injuries throughout the 2023 NFL season. We've seen multiple stars go down over the year, and now Herbert will miss the remainder of the season with a fractured index finger.

Herbert was injured during the Bolts' game over the weekend against the Denver Broncos, leaving the contest early. Back-up Easton Stick will now step up as the starter for the remainder of the games.

This move won't affect the Chargers' season too much, as they currently sit with a record of 5-8 on the year with Herbert, meaning their postseason chances were already pretty much toast in a crowded AFC. It's just another reminder of how tough the 2023 season has been, and now Herbert will work to get back for 2024.

He finishes the 2023 campaign throwing for 3,134 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. It wasn't the greatest showing from Herbert this season, as the offense struggled to find any consistency all year long.

With the Chargers essentially out of the playoff picture, it made sense to not try to rush him back. There would have been no point in risking further injury, and now Herbert can try to figure out what happened this season.

It's another wasted year for the Bolts as a whole, and it will likely see changes across the organization. Head coach Brandon Staley is a good candidate to be let go once the year ends, so Herbert will probably have a new coach next season.

Unfortunately, he won't get to play out the rest of the games this season, but maybe the Bolts can get a better draft pick from this injury. After all, they need all the help that they can get.
