Chargers Make Decision on Joey Bosa's Future
Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa is officially staying with the Chargers. Bosa has restructured his deal with the team to remain with the Bolts, via ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Just one day after teammate Khalil Mack was announced to be staying and restructuring his deal, Bosa is doing the same. This means that the Bolts will retain one of the best defensive duos.
This also means that Bosa will stay with the team that drafted him No. 3 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. Despite murmurs that the 28-year-old pass rusher could unite with brother Nick Bosa on the San Francisco 49ers, the Chargers have figured out a way to retain him. The former Defensive Rookie of the Year and four-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire career with the Bolts.
It's good news for the Chargers that they were able to restructure Bosa's deal, which will further help them sort out the cap issues they came into the offseason with. In addition, Bosa has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons which makes it harder to justify his hefty contract.
Bosa has played in 14 games over the past two seasons, missing seven in 2023. When Bosa has been able to play in 16 games, he's been productive and notched at least 10 sacks in each of those three seasons. However, he hasn't played a full slate of games since 2021, when he recorded 10.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
Hopefully, Bosa will stay healthier under the new Harbaugh regime, which includes strength coach Ben Herbert. One thing Herbert's players at Michigan were known for was staying healthy. Ideally, that will translate to Bosa and the Chargers going forward.
