Chargers News: 3 Undrafted Players That Could Make Immediate Impact in 2023
This current dead period that the Los Angeles Chargers are currently in before training camp can and will be used for a number of things. Players will be able to get some rest after going full-speed in OTA's and mandatory minicamp and prepare their bodies for the season coming up. This will be ultra-important for JC Jackson and Mike Williams who are coming off of major injuries.
However, the front office will also have their hands full as they will be scouting any available talent and assessing whether or not anybody still on the market is worth bringing in to training camp and seeing how they fit in with the rest of the group. Names like Ezekiel Elliott and John Johnson III have consistently been linked to the Bolts so we'll see if anything comes from that.
But LA can take a much easier approach here and just see if any of their undrafted players have impressed them enough to get brought onto the main roster. Let's take a look at three guys who could luck out in 2023.
Elijah Dotson (RB)
For the time being, the Chargers are not too worried about their running back position. Austin Ekeler will be returning for the 2023 season and has $2 million of incentives to perform for. They also have Joshua Kelley who will be entering his fourth season with the organization as their RB2.
However, it never hurts to prepare for the future and if Ekeler does bolt after this season, they will need to bring guys up and why not start since now with Elijah Dotson. Dotson is a 5'9, speedy RB who logged a very productive season at the University of Northern Colorado and ran 933 yards in 11 games.
Michael Ezeike (TE)
LA continues to need some depth at the tight end position especially after they opted to roll with other positions in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, they still agreed to terms with UCLA's own Michael Ezeike and he boasts an excellent skillset at that spot.
Ezeike is not the quickest player but standing at 6'5 and weighing in at 215 pounds, he can body up with some of the strongest players in the league. I view him as someone that LA plays in spurts and then a couple of big plays will be able to show how comfortable he is.
Jerrod Clark (DT)
When it comes to the Chargers, you really can never get enough offense as they boast some of the biggest stars in the league on that end. However, it's clear that they Arte trying to improve on the defensive side as well and I hope that they realize what they have on their hands in Jerrod Clark and get him rolling at some point.
Clark was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team in 2022 and he was able to record 41 tackles last season at Coastal Carolina University. He is able to take on any offense and has been willing to play any role as well.
